Director, Region 1
Bob Berkowitz, a board member of the Del Norte County and Unified School District in Del Norte County, is the Region 1 Director of the California School Boards Association, representing Lake, Humboldt, Del Norte and Mendocino counties. He has been serving on the Board of Directors since 2007.
Berkowitz has served on the board of trustees for the Del Norte County and Unified School District since 1998.
Prior to that, he served as President of the Northern California Classified School Employees Personnel Commission. In addition, he served as a Field Representative for former Congressman Frank Riggs form 1995 through 1998. Berkowitz began his career as a Radio and TV Production high school teacher and built a student operated, FCC licensed FM radio station on the Arcata High School campus, which received a California State Assembly Commendation. He then built and owned Del Norte County's first commercial FM Stereo radio station.
He has been a part of the Association's Legislative network and is a Governmental Relations Chair for his State Senator. Berkowitz represented CSBA on the Federal Issues Council. He has been a member of CSBA's Delegate Assembly, and most recently has was appointed by CSBA's Executive Director, Scott Plotkin, as their liaison to the National Forest Counties and Schools Coalition. Last year this group was able to bring over $66,000,000 to California's rural counties.
Berkowitz holds a BA and teaching credential from San Francisco State University. His wife, Katie, is a retired operating room nurse, and currently owns and operates the Del Norte Welcome Service; the couple has one grown son.

Director, Region 2
Dr. William (Bill) N. Enos, a board member in the Siskiyou County
Office of Education in Siskiyou County, is the Region 2 Director of the
California School Boards Association, representing Modoc, Siskiyou,
Trinity, Shasta, Plumas and Lassen counties. He has been serving on
the Board of Directors since 2005.
Enos has served on the board of trustees for the Siskiyou County
Office of Education since 1998, with four years as president. A lifelong
educator, Enos began his teaching career in the Sacramento City and
Folsom Cordova school districts. He worked his way through the
ranks to curriculum consultant, vocational education coordinator,
principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent. He retired as
superintendent from the Siskiyou Union High School District before
running for the board of education.
He is an active CSBA board member, serving on the Delegate
Assembly since 1999. He has participated in many CSBA professional
development workshops and trainings.
Enos holds a bachelor of science degree in business and economics
and a masters degree from CSU, Sacramento, as well as a doctorate
from the University of San Francisco.
He and his wife, Lillian, have two adult daughters and three
grandchildren.

Director, Region 3
Shana Levine, a board member for the Dixon Unified School District, is the Region 3 Director of the California School Boards Association and has served on the Board of Directors since 2007, representing Sonoma, Napa, Solano and Marin counties.
Shana has devoted the past 16 years to the Dixon Unified School District and currently serves as the board vice president. During her first term in office she helped to change the California Education Code to include hazing as an offense for which students could be suspended for. She is currently working on additional legislation on school safety. In addition, Shana has presented at the California Association of School Health Educators conference in 2007 as a panel member on school/community partnerships.
She has served on CSBA committees and is committed to advocating for education at the state and national levels.
Shana holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business from San Jose State University and enjoys traveling. Shana and her busband David have three children, Mark who is a computer engineering student at Cal Poly, Kelly who is a music major at University of Nevada, Reno and Lauren a 9th grader at Dixon High School.

Director, Region 4
Rick Anderson, a board member in the Chico Unified School
District since 1995, is the Region 4 Director of the California School
Boards Association and has served on the Board of Directors since
December 2006.
Three of his years of service on the Chico Unified School district
were as President. Prior to his work in Chico, Anderson was a board
member for the Corning Union Elementary School district. Anderson
is also a community advocate; he was the official representative
for the Chico Unified School District on the Humboldt burn dump
clean up committee, an education committee member for the Chico
Chamber of Commerce, a competition judge and advisor for the CSU
student in free enterprise and a guest lecturer at CSU Chico.
He spends his free time in local community theater and has also
helped with fundraising efforts for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the
American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association in
Butte County. Anderson enjoys good working relationships with the
leadership of CSU, Chico as well as members of the CSU Trustees.
Anderson has been involved with K-12 education for over 15 years.
He has served as member and chair of the school site council at
Marigold Elementary in Chico, member and chair with the district
advisory council of the Taft City School District and member and
chair for the school site council in the Taft City School District at
Parkview Elementary.

Director, Region 5
Jill Wynns, a board member in the San Francisco County Unified
School District in San Francisco County, is the Region 5 Director of
the California School Boards Association and has been serving on
the Board of Directors since December 2005. She previously served
as the Region 5 Director on the CSBA Board of Directors from 1995
to 2000.
Wynns has served on the San Francisco Board of Education since
1933. She is a major leader in the urban education community and an
expert on California school finance, urban education reform issues and
governance, charter schools, privatization of public schools, healthy
school food programs and labor-management collaboration. She is the
former director of a children's advocacy organization and is currently
working as a consultant specializing in education issues, community
organizing, development and local ballot initiatives. She is a member
of the San Francisco team participating in the Public Education
Leadership Project, the first-ever joint project of the Harvard Business
School and the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
She is on the national board of CUBE, The Council of Urban Boards
of Education of the National School Boards Association, and a former
President of the Association of California Urban School Districts.
She was a working group member of the California Master Plan for
Education. Wynns serves on the California Student Attendance Review
Board and the California Title 1 Committee of Practitioners, appointed
by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell. She is an
active participant in the Council of the Great City Schools, as well as
CUBE, lobbying regularly on federal education issues.
Wynns has authored articles for journals and newsletters, and is
a regular workshop presenter at conferences and symposia. She
successfully led a community coalition to keep the De Young Museum
in Golden Gate Park, and was part of the campaign to rebuild the
California Academy of Sciences. She served on CSBA's Delegate
Assembly from 1993-94 and 2001-05. Wynns holds a bachelor of arts
in humanities from New College at Hofstra University in New York, and
studied at Harvard and Wiks Folkhogskola in Balingsta, Sweden. She
has been married since 1971, and is the mother of two sons and one
daughter, all of whom attended public school in San Francisco.

Director, Region 6
Priscilla Cox, a board member in the Elk Grove Unified School District
since 1994, is the Region 6 Director of the California School Boards
Association and has been serving on the Board of Directors since
December 2006.
Cox has served on the board of trustees for the Elk Grove Unified School
District for 13 years, including two years as president. Recently, Cox
was appointed as chair of the statewide advisory committee for the
Center for Youth Citizenship. She was a member of the Instructional
Materials Advisory Panel for the Department of Education in 1998 and
2006. Cox also serves on Elk Grove High School's Agriculture Science
advisory committee, Elk Grove Unified School District's wellness
policy committee, coordinated health committee, the Cal-serve grant
committee and the Career Technical Education Advisory Panel for
California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
She is a former middle and high school math and science teacher. Her
local community activities include serving on the board of directors
for the Stone Lakes Refuge Association and the women's ministries for
the First Baptist Church. She served on CSBA's Delegate Assembly from
2001 to 2006. She also served on the charter school task force and
annual conference planning committee, chairing the committee in
2002. She is currently a member of the Policy Platform committee.
Cox received her Bachelor's degree and her secondary teaching
credential from UC Davis. She obtained her master of arts degree in
Education from California State University, Sacramento.
She is married with two daughters, one who recently graduated from
college and the other attends graduate school.

Director, Region 7
Janice Friesen, a board member in the Castro Valley Unified School
District in Alameda County, is the Region 7 Director of the California
School Boards Association and has been serving on the Board of
Directors since December 2005.
Friesen has served on the Castro Valley Unified School District since
1989, including four terms as President of the board in 1993, 1997, 2001
and 2005-06. She is a member of the Alameda County School Boards
Association and served as President, Vice President and Treasurer.
She served on CSBA's Delegate Assembly since 1995 and completed
CSBA's Masters of Boardsmanship in 1993 and Masters in Governance
in 2000. Friesen was also a member of CSBA's Children's Health Task
Force in 2000 and a member of the Conditions of Children Task Force
from 2006 to present.
Friesen holds a Master's degree in social work and a bachelor of arts
in Psychology from University of California, Berkeley. She has been
a licensed clinical social worker since 1973 and currently serves as
an independent contractor providing psychotherapy to children,
adolescents, couples and families with the Bay Valley Medical Group.

Director, Region 8
Cindy Marks, a board member in the Modesto City School District in
Stanislaus County, is the Region 8 Director of the California School
Boards Association and has been serving on the Board of Directors
since December 2004.
Marks has served on the board of trustees for the Modesto City School
District since 1997, including one and a half years as President.
Recently, Marks was appointed to the Modesto City Schools student
wellness committee to develop a policy for the school district. She
was appointed by the California Legislature to the Joint Committee to
Develop a Master Plan for Education - Kindergarten through University,
and is a representative on the California League of High Schools. A
lifelong, child advocate, she has volunteered as a mentor to at-risk
youth and gang members and has counseled junior and senior high
school students. She received the 2004 Walter C. “Bud” LaCore Award
for outstanding community service. Recently, she was involved with
the California Association of Large Suburban School Districts.
Marks is currently serving on the Schools Infrastructure Financing
Agency, which collects Mello Roos money to fund building schools
and infrastructure. She also serves on the School Attendance Review
Board and is officer of the Toastmasters International Club in Modesto.
She is a volunteer speaker and counselor for Bethany Christian
Services Adoption and Counseling Agency, and serves on the executive
committee of the Civic Mission for Education. Additionally, Marks has
served as a member of the Dr. Parker Executive Steering Cocmmittee
for Black Student Issues for the last four years.
She served on CSBA’s Delegate Assembly from 2000-2004 and was
a Governmental Relations chair, as well as on the Schools and Media
Crisis Communication Task Force. Marks has participated in many
CSBA professional development workshops and trainings and has been
appointed to the CSBA budget committee this year.

Director, Region 9
Chris Ungar, a board member in the San Luis Costal Unified School District, is the Region 9 Director for the California School Boards Association, representing San Benito, Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties. He has served on the CSBA Board of Directors since 2007.
Chris served as President of the San Luis Coastal USD from 2002-2003 and 2006-2007. Ungar’s interest areas include special education, vocational education, technology, school finance and revenue enhancement, high school configurations and fine arts education.
Chris has served on the Board of Directors of the Tri-Counties Education Association (is serving as President in 2008) and the San Luis Obispo County School Boards Association. As a 20-year special education educator, he is a member of both the California and American Speech Hearing Associations.
He and his wife Elyse enjoy reading and outdoor activities. They have one son, Casey, who attends the University of Pacific Conservatory of Music.

Director, Region 10
Susan Markarian, a board member in the Pacific Union Elementary School District in Fresno County, is the Region 10 Director of the California School Boards Association, representing Madera, Fresno and Kings counties. She has been serving on the Board of Directors since December 2002. Markarian has served on the board of trustees for the Pacific Union Elementary School District since 1985. She has been a member of Fresno County Trustee Association Executive Board since 1999 and was a Fresno Junior League educational advisor. She is active in CSBA, serving on the Delegate Assembly since 1990. She has served on several committees, including Reform and Restructuring, Asian/Pacific Islander Conference, Policy Platform, Annual EductionConference, Nominating, Audit, and the Small School Districts Council in which she is chairing this year. She earned her CSBA Master in Boardsmanship in 1990, and was a Governmental Relations chair. She has served on various councils and participated in many CSBA professional development workshops and trainings, and is currently enrolled in CSBA’s Masters in Governance program. She has been married to Richard for 35 years and has three children and two grandchildren. They are third generation family farmers growing raisins, wine grapes, almonds, and prunes.

Director, Region 11
John Walker, a board member in the Ventura Unified School District
and President of the Ventura County School Boards Association, is
the Region 11 Director of the California School Boards Association,
representing Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.
Walker is serving his fifth term as board member. He was board
President for four years, a district representative to the county committee
on school district organization and a district representative to many city,
county and civic organizations. Walker also works with the Ventura
County Workforce Investment Board, Native American Intertribal
Association of Ventura County, Greater Ventura Chamber of Commerce,
Ventura County Commissioner and serves on the Board of Directors for
the Ventura County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
He is an active CSBA board member, having served on Delegate
Assembly for over ten years and as a Governmental Relations Chair for
five years. Retiring from Verizon/GTE after 33 years in management,
Walker now works for Ojai Unified School District as Personnel
Director/Risk Manager. He holds a Master's degree from Pepperdine
University in Business Administration and a Bachelor's of Science
degree in Economics from CSU Long Beach. He also holds a California
Community College Lifetime Teaching Credential, having taught parttime
for over ten years.
He is a USMC Vietnam Era Veteran and was named the "2006 Outstanding
Citizen" by the California Teachers Association.
Walker and his wife have two daughters and four grandchildren.

Director, Region 12
Linda Pavletich, a board member in the Rio Bravo-Greeley Union Elementary School District in Kern County, is the Region 12 Director of the California School Boards Association. She has served on the Board of Directors from 1995-2002 and 2005 to present.
She has been a member of the Rio Bravo-Greeley Union School Board since 1978, serving both as clerk and president. In addition to being involved in many local civic activities, Pavletich has also served as the President of the Kern County School Boards Association.
Pavletich earned her Masters in Governance certification in 2003 and was part of the Legal Alliance Steering Committee from 2002-2004. She has been involved with the CSBA Audit Committee, the Small School Districts Council, the Legislative Network and has served as a Delegate to NSBA.
She is a graduate of both Federico’s Beauty College and Bakersfield College. Pavletich is a licensed electrical contractor and president of Sideline Ent., Inc., DBA Premier Lighting.

Director, Region 15
Martha G. Fluor, a board member of the Newport-Mesa Unified School
District in Orange County, is the Region 15 Director of the California
School Boards Association, representing Orange County. She has
served on the Board of Directors since 2005.
Fluor has served on the Board of Trustees for the Newport-Mesa Unified
School District since 1991 and also serves on the Board of Trustees of
the Coastline Regional Occupation Program. She serves as a liaison to
various district communities including the School Attendance Review
Board, CIF, Wellness and Project ASK.
She is also involved in many community organizations and currently
serves on the Girl Scouts of Orange County Board of Directors and the
KOCE-TV (PBS) Foundation Board. Her previous non-profit involvement
has included service on the Board of Directors of the orange County
Performing Arts Center, Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC),
Discovery Science Center and the Newport Beach Public Library. She
is a member of the Junior League of Orange County and a former board
member of the Assistance League of Newport-Mesa.
Fluor is an active CSBA board member, serving on Delegate Assembly
since 1992 and has completed the CSBA Masters in Boardsmanship
and Governance. She is serving on the 2007 Annual Conference
Committee, has served on the nominating committee for two years
and participates in many CSBA professional development workshops
and trainings. She is currently the governmental relations chair for
Congressman John Campbell.
She earned her bachelor of arts from San Diego State University and
holds two credentials in elementary and special education. She was a
special education teacher for four years in the Orange Unified School
District, as well as a bilingual instructional aide in Newport-Mesa.
Fluor is the proud mom of five children and is raising her two
granddaughters, Samantha (10 years) and Taylor (2 years). She is
a member of every PTA/PFO unit in her district and serves as the
PTA treasurer for her granddaughter’s elementary school; she also
produces the Sonora Elementary yearbook and is the Washington
Mutual Savings coordinator at two schools.

Director, Region 16
Pat Kohlmeier, a board member in the Redlands Unified School
District in San Bernardino County, is the Region 16 Director of the
California School Boards Association, representing San Bernardino
and Inyo counties. She has been serving on the Board of Directors
since December 2004.
Pat Kohlmeier has served on the board of trustees for the Redlands
Unified School District since 1994. A passionate community activist,
she was council administrator for the California Inland Empire Council
Boy Scouts of America, president of United Way East Valley and involved
in various PTAs. She is a member on the San Bernardino County
School Boards Association and the Redlands Council of PTAs.
She had served on CSBA's Delegate Assembly since 2000, was a
member of the 2006 CSBA annual conference planning committee and
has participated in many CSBA professional development workshops
and trainings.
Kohlmeier earned a Bachelor of Science in ornamental horticulture
from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and is currently
the Assistant Director of the Riverside Community College District
Foundation.
She and her husband, Jack, have two grown children; Sean, 25 and
Allison, 23. The couple lost their 20 year old son, Christopher in 2001.

Director, Region 17
Sharon Jones, a board member on the San Diego County Board of
Education, is the Region 17 Director of the California School Boards
Association, representing San Diego County. She has been serving on
the Board of Directors since 2004.
Jones was appointed to the San Diego County Board of Education in
February 2006 and elected to a four year term in June 2006. She
previously served on the board of trustees for the La Mesa-Spring Valley
School District from 1992-2006, including seven times as president.
She was also previously involved in the La-Mesa Spring Valley
Educational Foundation and Healthy Start Steering Committee, as well
as in her local school site council, PTA and District Advisory Council.
She is a member of the San Diego County School Boards Association
and has served as president, vice president and legislative chair.
She is active in CSBA, currently serving on the Audit Committee and
Task Force on Conditions of Children: Foster Youth. She attended the
Federal Relations Network to lobby for needed changes to No Child
Left Behind and has served on the Annual Education Conference
Planning Committee, the Federal Issues Council, the CSBA/CSTA
Joint Task Force on Science Education and the Budget and Bylaws
Committees. Jones is a Governmental Relations chair and earned
her CSBA Masters in Boardsmanship and is currently completing
the Masters in Governance. Jones has participated in many CSBA
professional development workshops and trainings and has presented
at several conference workshops.
Jones received her master of arts in graphic communications from
San Diego State University, as well as bachelor of arts in visual
communication from UCLA. She is a retired Owner/Creative Director
of Sharon Jones Design Group in San Diego.
Her professional design experience centered around creative problemsolving
and service to customers – good training for her avocation:
public education. She is passionate about equity and accessibility
for all children to receive the most profound educational experience
possible.
She has two adult sons, both educated in public schools.

Director, Region 18
Barbara D. Tooker, a board member in the Temecula Valley Unified
School District in Riverside County, is the Region 18 Director of the
California School Boards Association, representing Imperial and
Riverside counties. She has been serving on the Board of Directors
since 2000.
Tooker, currently president, has served on the board of trustees for
the TVUSD since 1991, including four terms as president. She also
serves on the board of the Riverside County School Boards Association,
having served two terms as president.
Tooker served on the Delegate Assembly from 1993-2000. She chaired
the Bylaws Committee for 2004 and 2005 and has served on a number
of CSBA committees and task forces, including the Budget, Nominating,
American Indian Student Issues, Parent Involvement, and Federal
Issues Council. Tooker also served as a Governmental Relations
chair from 1993-2000. She has attended many CSBA professional
development workshops and trainings, and has served as a delegate
with the National School Boards Association.
Tooker earned an Master's in library science from University of Denver
at Colorado and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Secondary Education,
with a minor in speech theater and library science from Adams State
College in Colorado. She has completed both the CSBA Masters in
Boardsmanship and the Masters in Governance programs. She is
currently the executive director of the National Parenting Institute.
Tooker resides in Temecula with her husband Tom; the couple has
two married daughters and are the proud grandparents of Fletcher
and Nolan.

Director, Region 20
Judy Hannemann, a board member in the Mountain View-Los Altos
Union High School District in Santa Clara County, is the Region 20
Director of the California School Boards Association, representing
Santa Clara County. She has been serving on the Board of Directors
since 1995.
Hannemann has served on the board of trustees for the Mountain View-
Los Altos School District since 1981, including seven terms as president.
She previously served on the Los Altos Elementary School Board and
has participated continually to the present in the Santa Clara School
Boards Association, including the presidency, in addition to being
active on her local PTA’s. She is also active in the Mountain View
Rotary, the Los Altos Community Foundation Board of Directors, the
Southern Peninsula Hearing League, the Mountain View Challenge
team, Partners for a New Generation and the Dean’s Advisory Board
for the Stanford University School of Education.
She served on the Delegate Assembly from 1989 to 1994. Hannemann
has served on the Education Legal Alliance, Golden Bell Awards,
Annual Education Conference Planning Committee, Budget, Bylaws,
Audit, Teacher Tenure Reform & Restructuring Committees and has
been a Governmental Relations chair. She has also participated in
many CSBA professional development workshops and trainings.
Hannemann earned a master of arts in guidance and counseling/
education from Stanford and a bachelor of arts in English literature
from Middlebury College in Vermont. She was an assistant dean of
students at Stanford and was later a local program coordinator for
Pepperdine University. She was awarded the “2002 Woman of the
Year” for the 22nd Assembly District.
She has three grown children and three grandchildren.

Director, Region 21
Marguerite Poindexter LaMotte serves as a board member of the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education (LAUSD). In February 2008, LaMotte was appointed by the district to serve on CSBA’s Board of Directors representing Region 21 (LAUSD).
A graduate of Xavier Preparatory High School and the YMCA Business College in New Orleans, at age 18, she was appointed Director of Spaulding Business College in Baton Rouge. Despite the rigorous demands of such an important appointment, she attended Southern University at the same time, earned a BA degree in Education, and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1961. She earned a M.Ed. in 1965 from Louisiana State University, where she was also the first African American woman to serve as visiting professor in the undergraduate school of education.
LaMotte has served as President of the Los Angeles Council of Black Administrators; President of the L.A. Chapter of Southern University Alumni, Los Angeles Chapter; President of the Assault on Illiteracy Program and as a volunteer and member of numerous community and civic organizations. She is an active member of her church and has two children and four grandchildren.

Director, Region 22
Keith Giles, a board member in the Lancaster Elementary School
District in Los Angeles County, is the Region 22 Director of the
California School Boards Association, representing Los Angeles county.
He has been serving on the Board of Directors since 2003.
Giles has served on the Board of Trustees for the Lancaster Elementary
School District since 1997. He has been a member of the Antelope
Valley School Boards Association since 1998 and served as President,
First Vice President, Second Vice President, Third Vice President
and Treasurer. Active in local politics, Giles has been involved in
the Republican Central Committee for Los Angeles County and the
Antelope Valley Republican Assembly.
He is an active CSBA board member, serving on the Delegate Assembly
since 2000. He earned his Masters in Boardsmanship in 1998 and
has participated in many CSBA professional development workshops
and trainings.
Giles works for Antelope Valley Produce Co., and has completed the
requirements for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Reserve
Deputy Sheriff program.
He holds a degree in business administration from Antelope Valley
College. Giles and his wife, Laura, have been married for 26 years
and have five children and two grandchildren.

Director, Region 23
Robert J. Cruz, 16-year member of the Charter Oak Unified School
District Board of Trustees, is the Region 23 Director of the California
School Boards Association.
Cruz, a 1982 graduate of the University of Redlands, is a member of
the California Latino School Boards Association and a representative
to the Los Angeles County School Trustees Association. He has served
on CSBA's Legislative Committee and CSBA's Strategic Planning
work team.
Cruz is a public affairs manager for the Southern California Gas
Company and serves on the K-12 advisory group for State Senator
Bob Margett. He is a member of the Business Advisory Group to
State Senator Gloria Negrete McLeod as well as a member of the San
Bernardino County Business Education Alliance.
Chair of the Covina Chamber of Commerce's Education Committee,
he is also a member of Cal Poly Pomona's Ambassadors for Education,
and a member of the Board of Directors Chaffey College Foundation.
Cruz received a certificate in hazardous waste management and
environmental auditing from the University of California at Riverside
in 1996 and has worked for the Southern California Gas Company for
the past 30 years.

Director, Region 24
>p>Sharon Stys, a board member in the South Whittier School District in Los Angeles County, is the Region 24 Director of the California School Boards Association, representing the southwest crescent of Los Angeles County. She has been serving on the Board of Directors since 2002.
Stys has served on the board of trustees for the South Whittier School District since 1990, including seven years as president. Very active in her local community, she is on the Whittier Area School Trustees Association and served as president for a number of years. Stys was also a member of the Los Angeles County School Trustees Association and was president in 2003. She served on the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts Advisory Council and was a district appointee to the TCI Cable Public Access Board.
She is an active CSBA board member, serving on the Delegate Assembly since 1996. She currently serves on the Bylaws Committee and previously served on the Golden Bell, Bylaws and Audit Committees and was a Governmental Relations chair. Stys earned her Master’s in Boardsmanship in 1993 and her Master’s in Governance in 2006. She has attended many CSBA professional development workshops and trainings and is involved with the National School Boards Association.
Stys and her husband, Jeff, have lived in Whittier for more than 35 years. Together they have three grown sons and six grandchildren. She holds an associate arts degree in computer science and a bachelor's degree in management information systems and is a self-employed computer programmer/consultant.

NSBA Director
Dr. Kerry Clegg, a board member in the Sulphur Springs Union Elementary School District in Los Angeles County, is the 2005-06 Immediate Past President of the California School Boards Association.
Clegg has served on the board of trustees for the Sulphur Springs Union Elementary School District since 1989, with three terms as president. He has also served as president and secretary-treasurer of the Santa Clarita Valley School Trustees Association. He represented Region 22 as a member of CSBA’s Delegate Assembly, and was on the association’s Board of Directors from 1998 to 2002.
Clegg’s service as chair of CSBA’s School Facilities Task Force, which was instrumental in determining the facilities needs of school districts across the state and helped to develop strategies that led to the passage of Proposition 47, led to his appointment to the advisory board of the Division of State Architects. Clegg has also served on CSBA’s Budget Committee, Nominating Committee, Policy Platform Committee, Federal Issues Council, K-Higher Education Remediation Task Force, and as a site validator for CSBA’s Golden Bell Awards.
In addition, Clegg chaired CSBA’s Legislative Committee in 2004 and in 2005 chaired the association’s Joint Task Force on Science, its Education Legal Alliance Steering Committee and its Superintendents Council. In 2006, Kerry is chairing the School Facilities: Construction Management Task Force. As an officer of the association, he also serves on the board of the Cities, Counties and Schools Partnership. In April 2006, Clegg was elected to serve a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the National School Boards Association.
“I would like to see that the school facilities bonds are fully implemented and that the state maintains a strong commitment to school construction and renovation,” said Clegg. “I am also very concerned that implementation of the Master Plan for Education be accomplished with a strong consideration for local governance and not a centralizing at the state level.”
Clegg has a doctorate in biology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is the CEO of the Sepulveda Federal Credit Union. He and his wife, Rosanna, have five children.

Director-at-Large, API
Ben Liao, a board member in the Cupertino Union School District in Santa Clara County, is the Director-at-Large Asian/Pacific Islander of the California School Boards Association. He was elected by the Delegate Assembly in December 2004 and again in December 2006.
Liao has served on the board of trustees for the Cupertino Union High School District since 1997, including serving as president from 2001-2003. He established and led the Asian American Parents Organization, which bridges the API community and the school districts. He is also very active in serving several local and international non-profit organizations.
He is very involved in CSBA, serving on the Delegate Assembly since 2001; Liao has also served on the Audit, Golden Bell and Annual Conference Committees, as well as participated in many CSBA professional development workshops and trainings. Liao has been in the Asian/Pacific Islander School Board Member Association since 1997.
Liao has a Bachelor’s of Science and a Master’s in Computer Science. He has worked in software research and development at Data General, Apple and Taligent. Liao currently works for Hewlett Packard in worldwide technical marketing.
He and his wife, Ellen, have been married for 25 years. They have a son and daughter.

Director-at-Large, Hispanic
Dr. Susan M. Heredia, a board member in the Natomas Unified School
District in Sacramento County, is the Director-at-Large, Hispanic
of the California School Boards Association and was elected by the
members of the Delegate Assembly in December 2004.
Heredia has served on the board of trustees for the Natomas Unified
School District since 2000. She is Board President, board representative
for the district on the Strategic Planning, English Language Learner,
Acheievement Gap, as well as County Committee on School District
Organization. She is very active on the Hispanic Research Special
Interest Group for the American Educational Research Association,
and a member of the California Association of Bilingual Educators
and National Association of Multicultural Education. She served on
the PTA for her local elementary and high schools. She has more
than 25 years as an educator in the area of bilingual education and
on issues related to ethnic-minority students. She has participated
in many CSBA professional development workshops and trainings,
has served on CSBA's Bylaws Committee and currently is serving on
CSBA’s Policy Platform.
Heredia earned a doctorate in socio-cultural studies from University
of California, Davis, and a master of arts in education and a
bachelor of arts in liberal studies from California State University,
Sacramento. She holds a teaching credential with an emphasis on
bilingual education from CSU, Sacramento, as well. She is currently
