Leads CSBA and its membership in taking a comprehensive approach to addressing health in schools, with an initial focus on asthma and indoor air quality (IAQ). Responds to requests for information and questions from school board members and school district administrators regarding asthma and indoor air quality issues and concerns. Works with individual school districts to develop policies. Develops strategies to implement IAQ and asthma policies and evaluates effectiveness of efforts. Works with state level stake holders and other non-profit health organizations. Provides stake holders with school boards governance perspective on health issues, focusing on asthma and IAQ. Remains current on national, state and local programs, trends, and resources. Receives limited supervision in the performance of duties. Works within a broad framework of policies and procedures. Uses a high degree of judgment, analytical, communication, and interpersonal relations skills.
This position is grant funded through February 2010, with the possibility of extension based on funding. The Senior Health Consultant will lead the IAQ/asthma project.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Extensive knowledge on school health research and programs at local, state, and national levels, with an initial focus on asthma and IAQ. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to learn, interpret, and apply Federal and State laws, rules, and regulations in relation to school health, IAQ and asthma programs and governance issues. Knowledge of general research techniques, methods, and procedures. Knowledge of Federal, State, and local government organizations. Knowledge of proper English usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Knowledge of effective report presentation techniques, methods, and practices.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of customers. Skill to provide good customer service that is responsive to each person’s needs. Ability to provide information that is reliable, accurate, and appropriate. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Special Conditions of Employment
MA/MS degree in Health Education, Community or Public Health, Public Administration, Public Policy or related field or equivalent education and/or experience. Minimum five to seven years’ experience in education settings conducting research and evaluating complex issues in education or the social sciences required.
Frequent travel lasting up to several days at a time is required throughout the state and outside the state. Frequent overnight stays away from home are required.
This is an exempt, confidential position. Vacations may be restricted due to operational priorities. Valid California driver’s license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation for use on Association business required.
