Closing the Achievement Gap by Addressing Issues that Impact Student Educational Attainment

Much of the work of the Foundation in the 2006-07 fiscal year has been focused on a comprehensive, linked approach to addressing several of the issues that impact student achievement. The foundation has obtained grant funding that would help address issues that will improve student learning and make strides toward closing the achievement gap. While each of these grants is significant in allowing the Foundation to work toward reaching its goals, it is also important to view them as components of the larger initiative to address issues that impact the environment for students both inside and outside the classroom. By targeting preschool, student wellness, and education funding adequacy, the Foundation is working to address issues that have can affect and impact the ability for students to achieve their educational goals.
