Successful Students Through Healthy Food and Fitness Policies Project

CSBA and California Project LEAN continue to work together on the Successful Students Through Healthy Food and Fitness Policies project funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The goal of this project has been to impact childhood obesity by improving the school environment. After successfully completing the terms of the original grant, the project has been nominated by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to apply for supplemental one-year funding because of its strong potential to create additional impact in the area of student wellness. This transitional grant will help to support the development of research briefs, Webinars, and trainings to further disseminate the results of the school wellness research conducted as part of the original grant.

The inaugural School Wellness Conference was held on October 1 and 2, 2007, in partnership with CSBA, the California Department of Education and the California Department of Health Services. The conference highlighted two critical components of school wellness: 1) the school nutrition environment and 2) physical education/activity. This conference was designed to highlight best practices and resources for school district personnel looking for assistance in addressing these issues within the greater context of their school wellness programs.

The compendium, Monitoring for Success: Student Wellness Policy Implementation Monitoring Guide can be purchased at the CSBA Store.
