Frequently Asked Questions About the Director-at-Large nomination and election process
What are the required meeting dates?
- All Board meetings (approximately six are held per year) - in late January, March, May (the May meeting is on a Friday), June, and September, the meetings are held on weekends (a full day on Saturday and half day on Sunday). In late November/early December the Board meeting is held in the city that is host to the CSBA Annual Education Conference and that meeting is held on a Tuesday immediately preceding the Delegate Assembly meeting.

- CSBA Legislative Action Conference (in conjunction with the May Delegate Assembly)
- CSBA Annual Education Conference (in conjunction with the November/December Delegate Assembly)
What is the term for Directors-at-Large?
Directors-at-Large serve two-year terms and take office immediately upon the close of the Association’s Annual Education Conference.
Who can run for Directors-at-Large, Asian/Pacific Islander and Hispanic?
Any member of a district board or county office of education whose board is a member of CSBA.
Who can nominate the Directors-at-Large, Asian/Pacific Islander and Hispanic?
Any district board or county office of education whose board is a CSBA member.
What does a nomination consist of?
- Nomination form. It is the responsibility of the nominating board to obtain permission from the nominee prior to submitting his or her name.
- Two letters of recommendation (one page, single-sided) are required. They may be submitted by any member board or county office of education, any individual CSBA board member, or a board member organization. (A letter signed by the Superintendent should be submitted on behalf of the full board.)
When are the nomination forms and letter of recommendations due?
The U.S. Postal Service postmark or fax deadline for the nomination form and two letters of recommendations is 5 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2008.
Who can write the letters of recommendation?
A CSBA member board from a district or county office of education or an individual board or a board member organization.
Can the same board that nominates a candidate also submit a letter of recommendation on his/her behalf?
Yes.
