Schools: An investment we can't afford to cut

The governor's budget proposal released on January 10, 2008, calls for unprecedented cuts to K-12 students and schools by reducing Proposition 98 funding by $400 million in the current year and suspending Proposition 98 funding for 2008-09.

No Child Left Behind

Fix No Child Left Behind

CSBA is a leader in the fight to "Fix NCLB" to ensure that schools and districts are held accountable for student success in a reasonable fashion. With reauthorization of the Act scheduled this year, the second phase of the CSBA's Fix NCLB campaign has been launched. The campaign materials consist of key messages, talking points and advocacy tips that school governance teams can use in their local communities to engage and educate parents, teachers, community leaders and lawmakers on the pitfalls of NCLB — and most importantly, how it can be fixed to ensure that it achieves the laudable goals it was created to meet.

California Education Coaliton for Health Care Reform

Student Issues Conference Group

California Education Coalition for Health Care Reform is a statewide partnership of employer and employee organizations committed to addressing runaway healthcare costs in the public education sector in California. In June 2007, funding was provided to the coalition through the Center for Collaborative Solutions by the Endowment, California Health Care Foundation and CECHCR member organizations for a two-year project.

Instructional Time Task Force

The California School Boards Association convened an Instructional Time Task Force in 2007 to examine efforts to both increase the instructional time in California and to enhance the time that currently exists. This report is intended to spur local education leaders to examine ways to enhance instructional time for students and for teachers to ensure that students are engaged in a rich and comprehensive educational program.
