CSBA's Governmental Relations department takes the unique perspective of the governance team to those who pass laws that impact schools. The association's legislative advocates analyze all bills and resolutions that impact K-12 public education and coordinate with CSBA's Legislative Committee to formulate the association's legislative positions on the most critical legislative proposals. Following the direction set by the Legislative Committee, CSBA's legislative advocates represent the interests of its statewide members to the Legislature, governor, Congress, White House officials and other regulatory agencies.

Governmental relations staff also assist board members to be more effective advocates themselves, coordinating their efforts to advocate on issues of concern to their communities via Advocacy Interactive ».

Legal

We fight better when we stand together

CSBA’s Education Legal Alliance initiates and supports litigation in cases of statewide significance to all California schools. It successfully pursues and defends the broad spectrum of statewide public education interests in the courts and before state agencies. Working with school attorneys throughout the state, the Alliance is a powerful force taking schools’ side in the courts. In cases ranging from property tax administration fees to the special education mandated cost claim, the Alliance has proven highly effective, both saving and gaining schools literally millions of dollars and protecting the governance role of the board.
