School Leaders Gear Up to Attend CSBA Annual Education Conference
WEST SACRAMENTO, CA – Members of the media are invited to join 3,000 school leaders from throughout California who will attend the California School Boards Association Annual Education Conference on November 29 to December 1, and Pre-conference on November 28 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, CA.
Nearly 250 speakers will present updated trends, facts and studies in approximately 100 sessions on issues ranging from updates on the No Child Left Behind Act, school leadership development, student assessment and accountability, health and wellness and more. Pre-conference symposiums will cover three topics: a discussion highlighting current research and best practices to achieve better academic outcomes for students with special needs; legal experts discussing how to handle a variety of governance and legal situations including the Public Records Act; and an orientation for new board trustees, providing information on the roles and responsibilities of the school board governance team, and more.

Thursday, November 29 – Noon
Mark Salzman, author of Iron & Silk, for which he was a Pulitzer Prize finalist, and True Notebooks, a fascinating look at his experiences as a writing teacher at the Los Angeles Central Juvenile Hall. Salzman will share his personal experiences bringing a fresh perspective on alternative education.
Friday, November 30 -Noon
Christopher Gardner, whose personal success story was released in the film called The Pursuit of Happyness, will share his universal message about personal sacrifice, overcoming adversity, commitment to children, and doing what is right even if it means hardship.
Saturday, December 1 -Noon
Sherry Bebitch Jeffe, Ph.D., senior scholar, School of Policy, Planning and Development at the University of Southern California will share her thoughts on current political events and the upcoming presidential election.
