California School Boards Association Wins National and State Awards For Design and Writing

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (July 7, 2008) – The California School Boards Association (CSBA) has received several awards for its publications and promotional materials, including a Tabbie Award from Trade, Association and Business Publications International (TABPI) and an Award of Excellence from both the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) and the California School Public Relations Association (CALSPRA).

The Tabbie Award, TABPI’s annual international honor for English-language publications, was given for CSBA Senior Graphic Designer Kerry Macklin’s page design for “Art Smarts: Lessons Learned about Investing in a Well-rounded Education.”

California Schools, a quarterly magazine published by CSBA, earned the only Award of Excellence given by NSPRA in 2008, for graphic layout and design, writing and content; and NSPRA awarded California School News with an Honorable Mention in the newsletters category for graphic layout and design, writing and content.

  • CSBA writer Carol Brydolf won an NSPRA Award of Merit for Excellence in Writing for the California Schools article "Bridge over Troubled Waters: Making Peace with Charter Schools.”
  • “A Conversation with … [CSBA President] Paul H. Chatman,” CSBA Managing Editor Brian Taylor’s interview in California Schools, received an Honorable Mention for excellence in writing from NSPRA.

CALSPRA’s Award of Excellence in Multimedia Communication went to CSBA’s Web site redesign, managed by CSBA Senior Marketing Director Marci McFadden. Awards of Merit in brochures went to two CSBA publications: “Go Green with CSBA” by Senior Graphic Designer Kerry Macklin and “Get to Know CSBA” by Senior Graphic Designer Dan DeFoe. CALSPRA also gave Awards of Merit for writing to CSBA for articles authored by CSBA writers Marsha Boutelle, Carol Brydolf, and Brian Taylor.
