Newport-Mesa Unified School District Board Member Martha Fluor Elected CSBA Vice President
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – "Newport-Mesa Unified School District Board Member Martha Fluor was elected vice president of the California School Boards Association today," announced CSBA Executive Director Scott P. Plotkin. Fluor was elected at the CSBA Delegate Assembly meeting preceding the Annual Education Conference in San Diego.
“I am looking forward to working with educational leaders across California and the nation to improve public education,” said Fluor. “I feel confident that with my experience and commitment, CSBA will continue to break barriers and create change that will allow our children to be driven by their aspirations, not bounded by their circumstances.”
Fluor has served as the CSBA Region 15 Director for three years. She has been a member of the CSBA Delegate Assembly since 1992 and has completed her Masters in Governance. She has served as a CSBA Governmental Relations Chair and has served on several CSBA committees.
“Martha is a passionate and dedicated leader, and CSBA will continue to benefit greatly from her experience,” said CSBA President Paula Campbell. “I look forward to working with her in the years ahead.”
Fluor has been a member of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District board since 1991 and also serves on the board of trustees for the Coastline Regional Occupational Program. She is involved in many community organizations and currently serves on the Girl Scouts of Orange County Board of Directors and the KOCE-TV (PBS) Foundation board. Her previous non-profit involvement has included service on the board of directors of the Orange County Performing Arts Center, Children’s Hospital of Orange County, Discovery Science Center and the Newport Beach Public Library. She is a member of the Junior League of Orange County and a former board member of the Assistance League of Newport-Mesa.
Fluor earned a Bachelor of Arts from San Diego State University and holds two credentials in elementary and special education. She was a special education teacher for four years in the Orange Unified School District, as well as a bilingual instructional aide in Newport-Mesa. Fluor is the proud mother of five children and grandmother of two grandchildren.
Fluor is joined on the CSBA Executive Committee by CSBA President Paula Campbell, President-elect Frank Pugh, and Paul H. Chatman, immediate past president. The officers are elected by the delegates at the Delegate Assembly meeting just prior to the CSBA Annual Education Conference.
