Board Members Learn Strategies to Survive Funding Cuts at CSBA’s Annual Education Conference

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San Diego, Calif. – More than 2,000 school board members and administrators from across the state will gather in San Diego from December 3-5 at CSBA’s Annual Education Conference and Trade Show. This year’s conference at the San Diego Convention Center will provide school districts and county offices of education with the insight, tools and knowledge needed to survive the state’s $12.5 billion in cuts to education.

“Now more than ever, board members must take advantage of opportunities to share strategies and best practices in order to survive the financial crises our schools currently face,” said CSBA President, Paula S. Campbell. “CSBA’s Annual Education Conference provides a unique opportunity for attendees to network with fellow education officials, hear about what other schools are doing to survive this economic crisis and learn from experts in the education community. School districts should not face these draconian cuts alone, and by collaborating and learning from others we have a better chance of minimizing the impacts of these horrific cuts to education.”

CSBA’s three-day conference will feature more than 200 sessions to guide school governance teams through economic hardships. Workshops, clinics and critical issues sessions focus on topics such as: surviving the school fiscal crash of 2009-10; collaborating with community members, local business and neighboring districts; budget trimming 101; taking advantage of financing options under ARRA; generating revenue with innovative ideas; and communicating the state of school districts through social media and Web 2.0.

“CSBA’s Annual Education Conference provides a unique learning environment that affords board members the opportunity to network with key policy officials, compile best management practices for their individual districts and explore national and statewide education trends,” said CSBA Executive Director Scott P. Plotkin.

The conference will also act as a venue for the annual “passing of the gavel” from current CSBA president, Paula S. Campbell to incoming president, Frank Pugh, as well as the announcement of CSBA’s newly elected 2010 Vice President. The association will also recognize 48 Golden Bell Award recipients from across the state.
