Frank Pugh Elected President of the California School Boards Association
San Diego, Calif. – Santa Rosa City Schools Board Member, Frank Pugh, will begin his term as the president of the California School Boards Association this Saturday, upon the close of the 2009 Annual Education Conference and Trade Show. Surrounded by more than 2,000 school governance leaders at the conference, Pugh announced today that he plans to be an aggressive advocate for the state’s public schools in order to ensure that students receive a properly funded education.
“This year we plan on having robust conversations, some not pleasant, with our state leadership to help them understand that they represent us – that they represent our children and they must feel the sting of their failures,” said Pugh.
Pugh has served on the Santa Rosa City Schools board for 20 years and was elected as board president for four terms. He is a full-time instructor and counselor for Santa Rosa Junior College and was president of the Santa Rosa Junior College Academic Senate for six years.
During Pugh’s time as a board member, he served on the CSBA Delegate Assembly for nine years and the association’s Board of Directors (representing Region 3) for seven. He was also a member of the Higher Education Remediation Task Force, the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California and the CIF Board of Managers. As president-elect, he chaired CSBA’s Legislative Committee and he served on the Cities Counties Schools Partnership board during its pivotal state-wide Local Government Summit in July 2009.
Pugh has also participated as a member of the Sonoma County Committee School District Organization, Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce Education Steering Committee, member of the Board of Directors of CENIC, executive member of the Sonoma County School Trustees Association and other various regional educational advisory committees.
Joining Pugh on the CSBA Executive Committee for 2010 will be Past President Paula S. Campbell, newly elected President-elect Martha Fluor and CSBA Vice President Mary W. Boger. CSBA officers are elected by the delegates at the Delegate Assembly meeting prior to the CSBA Annual Education Conference and serve for one year in each position.
