Former CSBA leaders and a veteran of education department join CSBA staff
CSBA has made three additions to its staff, including a former president of the association, a former member of its board of directors and a former legislative representative with the California Department of Education.
David Pollock, CSBA President in 2004-05 and a board member in the Moorpark Unified School District in Ventura County, is now Senior Director, Governance and Policy Services Program Development. Pollock will meet with school district personnel and superintendents throughout the state from his base in Moorpark.
Pollock brings extensive experience to his new position. In addition to serving as CSBA President, he served on CSBA’s High School Reform Task Force and Governmental Relations Committee, including stints as chair of each panel. He has also served in CSBA’s Delegate Assembly and was a delegate to the National School Boards Association.
Pollock also been active on a local level, serving on Moorpark’s governing board since 1993 and as its president in 1998-99. He also served four years as president of the Ventura County School Boards Association. Prior to coming on staff at CSBA he was manager of market planning for Rocketdyne (now Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne), a space propulsion firm headquartered in Canoga Park. Pollock completed his undergraduate work at Pepperdine University and earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is also a licensed commercial pilot.
Molly McGee Hewitt is CSBA’s new Director, Executive Search Services, which provides local boards with statewide and national recruitment, assessment and selection services for senior school and district officials. She replaces Richard Loveall, who is retiring Feb. 28. McGee Hewitt had served as a consultant for CSBA in Single District Governance Services and as a faculty member in the Masters in Governance program, providing instruction in human resources, finance, community relations and advocacy.
McGee Hewitt began her involvement in education early by winning election to the board of trustees of the Anaheim Union High School District at the age of 19, going on to serve for 18 years. A graduate of Charter Oak State College, she completed graduate work at Worchester College, Oxford University. She has been a professional speaker and trainer since 1974, specializing in interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, leadership and team building. McGee Hewitt’s clients have included the California School Employees Association, the California Association of School Business Officials, the National School Boards Association and American Schools of South America.
Adonai Mack is joining CSBA’s Governmental Relations staff as a legislative advocate. He comes from the California Department of Education, where he worked for nearly three years as a legislative representative monitoring, analyzing and testifying on bills affecting K-12 education on behalf of state Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell. He also served as a liaison between the superintendent’s office and the Legislature, public education organizations, other governmental entities and members of the public.
Mack previously served as a policy analyst in the state cabinet-level Office of the Secretary of Education, where he was a policy analyst and represented the secretary on the California AfterSchool Partnership and the state’s School-to-Career Initiative. He has been on the board of directors of United Advocates for Children of California, dedicated to the mental health of children and families, since 2002. Mack earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ga.
