Easy access: GAMUT Online a winner

Nearly half, or 465 in all, of California’s school districts and county offices of education now use GAMUT Online as their primary access to CSBA sample policies, a 25 percent increase over last year. What is it that has attracted so many to the online service?

Most districts cite the advantage of having access to the new and revised policies soon after their release, instead of waiting for a paper packet of updates to be sent every four months. The online version of GAMUT also allows an unlimited number of district/COE personnel, board members and the public (for Policy Online clients) to refer to the policies, versus sharing one paper manual or the CD version of GAMUT which must be installed on each user’s computer.

One hundred fifty districts access their local policy manuals via GAMUT Online, eliminating the need to distribute paper copies of their manuals and ensuring that staff and board members are all working from the same policy.

GAMUT is a computerized policy information service that includes the entire CSBA Policy Update Reference Manual — more than 800 sample policies, regulations and exhibits. The samples, which have been researched and written by CSBA policy experts, are designed to be customized locally. Each sample contains links to legal resources, allowing users to move easily between a policy and its legal citations.

GAMUT, an acronym for Governance And Management Using Technology, contains the entire Education Code, Code of Regulations, Title 5 and portions of other relevant legal codes.
