In Memoriam: Former CSBA Presidents Amspoker, Wood 

Former CSBA Presidents Ross W. Amspoker, 84, and Charles D. Wood, 83, passed away recently.

Mr. Amspoker served as CSBA President in 1966-67. He also served on the Palmdale School District board of trustees, the Antelope Valley School Trustees Association and the Los Angeles County Committee on School District Organization. A native of Colorado whose family moved to Long Beach, he earned a journalism degree from the University of California, Berkeley, before serving in Europe in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He later earned his law degree from UC Berkeley and worked as an attorney in Los Angeles and the Antelope Valley.

Mr. Amspoker is survived by his wife, Beryl Amspoker of Palmdale, three sons and eight grandchildren.

Mr. Wood served as CSBA President in 1973-74. He also served on the boards of the Rio Linda Union and Grant Joint Union High school districts in the Sacramento area, where he lived his entire life except during military service in World War II.

Mr. Wood enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1940 and was awarded an Air Medal for his bravery as a flight engineer in North Africa and Italy. He earned a bachelor’s degree from then Sacramento State College in 1951 while working for Southern Pacific Railroad as a fireman and engineer. He later worked in civil service.

Mr. Wood was married to Jacqueline Olson Wood, who preceded him in death in 1991. Survivors include two sons and a daughter.
