Save the dates: Annual Conference housing, Back-to-School and Wellness deadlines approaching

Summer break has a whole different meaning in the CSBA Continuing Education Department, where staffers are working year round to bring our members the conferences and training that will help them build the background and expertise they need to fulfill their commitment to school governance.

Here are some key dates and events to remember as the start of the traditional school year adds new demands to everyone’s schedules:

Annual Education Conference and Trade Show

The annual conference doesn’t take place until Nov. 29—Dec. 1 in San Diego, but registration opens at 8 a.m. Aug. 20 for regular housing, including housing for pre-conference activities scheduled on Wednesday, Nov. 28.

A limited number of rooms will open at the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina, the headquarters hotel. Two other hotels will be available: the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego and the Westin Horton Plaza San Diego.

Additional details, including registration for the conference itself, are available at www.csba.org/aec.

Back-to-School Conference Sept. 20

A new format will expand members’ options for participating in CSBA’s Back-to-School Conference, scheduled on Sept. 20 this year. A live audience will watch the event unfold at the Santa Clara County Office of Education, while other COEs around the state will host regional Webcast presentations—stay tuned for details.

Wherever our members watch it from, they’ll get the latest news on the state budget and legislative changes affecting public schools. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. The workshop will follow from 9 to 11.

School Wellness Conference

The first-ever School Wellness Conference, Oct. 1-2 in Anaheim, is expected to set the stage for an annual focus on ways to improve child health, nutrition and fitness. Nearly 150 Model Program Workshops, Critical Issue and Table Talk sessions are planned. Highlights include “School Wellness: A National Perspective” and “Strategies for Successful Youth Engagement.”

Additional details, including registration for the conference itself, are available at www.csba.org/apps/swc
