Wellness conference in Anaheim Oct. 1-2

CSBA, the California Department of Education and the California Department of Health Services are partnering for a stimulating, first-ever School Wellness Conference at the Anaheim Marriott Oct. 1-2. Critical components of school wellness—the school nutrition environment, physical education and active recreational opportunities—will be highlighted.

The conference will give school governance teams, teachers, staff and students a chance to work with parents, community health advocates, nutritionists and local public health officials to improve nutrition, physical education and fitness on school campuses. It will emphasize best practices, resources and teamwork in addressing student wellness issues.

Conference planners are seeking presentation proposals showcasing effective strategies and programs in the following areas:

  • Governance, policy and legislation
  • Physical activity/physical education
  • Nutrition and health education
  • Healthy foods on campus
  • Student, parent and stakeholder involvement
  • Evaluation and accountability
  • Marketing and promotion of wellness/healthy changes
  • Healthy, creative fund-raising and funding opportunities
  • Professional development

A submission form will be posted at www.csba.org/events/swc this month. Proposals should reflect current issues and must be submitted by April 20.
