New CSBA PIO has association experience

Public information and media relations veteran Brad Sherwood has joined CSBA as the association’s public information officer.

Sherwood brings in-depth knowledge about coalition building, crisis management and community outreach to his new position, and he’s also experienced in providing media training. His background includes public information work for the Association of California Water Agencies, a statewide organization which, like CSBA, serves local elected officials who provide essential and complex yet heavily regulated services to their constituents.

At ACWA, Sherwood developed and implemented legislative and regulatory outreach programs and worked in media relations; he has also worked at the local level, for the Sonoma County Water Agency, and in public and media relations with the firm of Nelson Communications Group/Porter Novelli in Sacramento. He has a master’s degree in public affairs and political management from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and a bachelor’s degree in government and journalism from California State University, Sacramento.

“I look forward to working with our members to further develop and implement communication strategies that will increase the public’s understanding about the value of public education and the importance of local school governance,” said Sherwood. “CSBA is the state’s leading public education advocate, and I want to ensure our voice is heard loud and clear.”
