Back-to-School Conference offers value, convenience

This year, CSBA has made it easier than ever to attend the annual Back-to-School Conference by providing two ways to participate and a variety of reasons to do so—including:

  • Hear CSBA Executive Director Scott P. Plotkin’s always-popular “Top 10 Issues” for the upcoming school year, in which he outlines the challenges the new school year will present and informs governance teams about crucial topics.
  • Learn what the Legislature is—and isn’t—doing that affects boards and schools on the local level. Plus, find out what legislation Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed into law, what he hasn’t, and what it all means for your schools and students.
  • Get the latest information on the status of the California High School Exit Exam.
  • Gather up-to-the-minute facts on the state budget and how it will impact K-12 education.
  • Hear updates on the status of reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind Act and other federal issues.

For the first time, CSBA is presenting two conference options that will make participation in this valuable event as convenient as possible.

For those in the San Diego area, a traditional conference that includes lunch, materials and refreshments will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the San Diego County Office of Education from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For everyone north of San Diego, CSBA is hosting its premiere, interactive Back-to-School Webcast on Thursday, Sept. 20, at county offices of education throughout the state. As of Aug. 31, the following COEs have been confirmed: Butte, El Dorado, Humboldt, Lake, Lassen, Los Angeles, Mendocino, Riverside, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Sonoma. Webcast: 10 a.m.–noon. Registration fee: $40.

Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the conference will run from 10 to noon. Viewing the Webcast at other COEs may be a possibility; contact CSBA’s Andrea Johnson at 916-669-3283 or e-mail her at ajohnson@csba.org for further information.
