CSBA, SI&A team up on Special Education Review Services
Published: April 1, 2008
CSBA has teamed with School Innovations & Advocacy to begin offering Special Education Review services to school districts, focusing on developing methods to reallocate existing resources while maintaining special education program integrity.
“As districts are looking at increasing special education demands on already strained general funds, they need to be proactive about finding the most efficient ways to provide services to all students that will still produce the desired outcomes,” said Suzi Rader, CSBA director of District and Financial Services. “This partnership is especially critical this year because of the state’s proposed cuts.”
The SI&A team, led by Bonnie Russell-Hunt, a former special education administrator, assists districts by identifying service delivery options that may be expanded or modified to realize savings that can, in turn, be reinvested to enhance programs.
“The district office has to make sure there are adequate resources available for special education,” Russell-Hunt said. “We ask the question, ‘What can we do to most effectively meet the needs of the special education population and still meet the needs of the rest of the school population?’”
The SI&A team works directly with chief business officials and special education personnel to:
- gather documentation on special education programs
- conduct a thorough operations analysis
- provide results and recommendations aligned with each district’s core values
- present a comprehensive report that covers both fiscal and policy perspectives
