Algebra back in court Dec. 19

A Dec. 19 hearing in Sacramento Superior Court may determine whether the temporary injunction against the State Board of Education’s controversial mandate that all California eighth-graders be tested in Algebra I will be extended.

CSBA’s Education Legal Alliance and the Association of California School Administrators earlier this year challenged the SBE’s authority to change the state's content standards, which do not currently require eighth-grade students to take Algebra I. Judge Shellyanne Chang issued the temporary injunction
Oct. 28, ruling that the plaintiffs—and the school districts and students represented by CSBA and ACSA—would “suffer irreparable injury” if the SBE is allowed to implement its algebra requirement without a comprehensive hearing on the issue.
