Fluor selected for NSBA’s foundation

The National School Boards Foundation has selected Martha Fluor, who represents Region 15 (Orange County) on CSBA’s Board of Directors, to join its board of trustees. NSBF works in partnership with the National School Boards Association on a variety of projects and initiatives focused on enhancing local school board members’ governance skills.

Fluor has served on the Newport-Mesa Unified School District board in Orange County since 1991 and also serves on the board of the Coastline Regional Occupation Program. An active member of CSBA, she has been on the association’s Delegate Assembly since 1992 and its Board of Directors since 2005. She is also currently the Governmental Relations chair for U.S. Rep. John Campbell.

Fluor is also an active member of the NSBA, attending its annual Federal Relations Network conferences in Washington, D.C. She holds credentials in elementary and special education and was a special education teacher in Orange Unified School District as well as a bilingual instructional aide in Newport-Mesa.

Fluor was one of three new members chosen to join the 17-member NSBF board late last year, and the only Californian. Board members serve three-year terms, setting priorities, guiding decision-making and playing a major role in fundraising for the foundation, whose mission is to foster excellence, equity and innovation in public education through research, school board leadership and business and community involvement.
