CA district wins NSBA-related award
Published: May 1, 2008
California’s Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District was recently awarded the American School Board Journal Magna Awards’ Grand Prize in its enrollment category.
The award, conferred by the National School Boards Association’s monthly magazine, recognizes outstanding efforts to promote student learning and community involvement in schools. Santa Ynez Valley won in the under-5,000 enrollment category for its Environmental and Spatial Technologies entry, a project-based service learning class focused on using technology to help resolve problems. The class is composed primarily of girls and students of color—two groups that have been historically underrepresented in such studies.
The award includes a $3,500 scholarship fund.
