Latino school governance leaders in Visalia Oct. 9–12

The California Latino School Boards Association’s Unity 2008 Leadership Summit and Education Training Conference is coming to the Visalia Convention Center/Marriott Hotel in Visalia Oct. 9–12, with a theme of “Empowering Our Children through Educational Leadership.”

Workshops are scheduled on broad education issues, including closing the academic achievement gap, student wellness, enhancing parental involvement, reducing dropout rates, and “High School Equity: A Moral Imperative for America’s Students”; school governance issues, such as labor negotiations, finances in districts with declining enrollment, the state budget and legislative developments, and “Promoting P-12 Articulation”; and core Hispanic issues, such as meeting the needs of English language learners and “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Your District.”

Conference registration is $250, with single-day registration also available; the Marriott is offering a conference rate of $99 per night, but reservations should be made soon at 800-798-6506.
