School Accountability Report Cards - SARC

School Accountability Report Cards, better known as SARCs, have been required annually of all California public schools since the passage of Proposition 98 in 1988. Initially easy to prepare, with only 13 required elements, years of legislation have expanded the SARC to include more than 30 elements — leading to a major undertaking for districts and schools alike. Today, SARCs are not only a state requirement, but a beneficial tool used by school districts to highlight the quality of education and achievement provided to their students. These report cards allow the public to evaluate and compare schools in seven major areas, including demographic information, school safety and climate for learning, academic data, class size, teacher and staff information, curriculum and instruction, and fiscal and expenditure data.
