The Position

The governing board of the Lemoore Union High School District seeks a committed, creative, visionary educational leader to serve as its superintendent and chief executive officer. The ideal candidate will possess superior interpersonal and communication skills that will promote effective interaction with the school board, staff and community members. A demonstrated collaborative and inclusive style is prerequisite. As is an acknowledged record of success in improving the academic performance of all students. The successful candidate is someone committed to becoming highly visible and involved in the community and schools. He or she must be able to build upon the already outstanding accomplishments of the district and have exceptional expertise in school finance and construction of school facilities.

The Community

Lemoore, located in Kings County, California, is a city preparing for the future while preserving the best of its past. Lemoore has enjoyed a steady population increase of four and five percent over the past several years. Business and industry are attracted to and stay in Lemoore because of low land prices, an educated workforce and financial incentives provided by California Enterprise and Recycling Market Development Zones, and a cooperative local government. Over the past few years, the number of military personnel at Lemoore Naval Air Station has increased with new squadrons being added to those already based in Lemoore. The City of Lemoore is home to over 24,000 residents with an estimated median home value if $214,000.

The District

The Lemoore Union High School District, serving approximately 2,200 student learners in grades 9 through adult, is a comprehensive high school district consisting of the main campus of Lemoore High School, Donald C. Jamison High School, Yokut Necessary Small Continuation High School, Gundacker Community Day School, Lemoore Adult School and Lemoore Middle College High School which is located at the West Hills College Campus in Lemoore, CA. The district exemplifies a rural community rich in tradition and offers an excellent and diverse education program to students living within the area. The district enjoys a reputation for excellence as demonstrated by the personal and professional success of its graduates. The service area of the district extends to a population of nearly 30,000 in the communities of Lemoore, Stratford, the Santa Rosa Rancheria Indian Reservation, the Island District and the Lemoore Naval Air Station. The district employs 130 certificated and 113 classified staff members.

Lemoore Union High School District is known for its superb academic and athletic programs and facilities as well as extensive extra-curricular offerings. NJROTC has been recognized as an honor unit for the past 12 years and the FFA has been acknowledged at the state and national levels for excellence. The outstanding instrumental and choral music programs as well as art, drama and career/technical programs provide students with a well-rounded instructional experience. TAPIT (teachers, administrators, parents in touch) serves as a vital link to parents by keeping all stakeholders informed and involved in all aspects of the school community and it provides a rich supply of volunteers for school functions.

The 2007–2008 budget for the Lemoore Union High School District is $ 20,000,000.

Selection Criteria

The following criteria represent standards to be used in the evaluation of applications and in the selection of the superintendent.

Professional Experience and Preparation

  • Experience as a district-level administrator, preferred
  • Five years of secondary classroom experience, preferred
  • Experience as a secondary site administrator, required
  • California Teaching and Administrative Services Credentials or eligibility for California certification, required
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution, required

Personal Characteristics

  • Is able to build a climate of trust and respect

  • Places students needs first in the decision-making process

All applicants must provide the following items by the closing date, February 15, 2008 (5:00 p.m.), to be considered:

  • A personal letter of application stating reasons for interest in the Lemoore Union High School District superintendent position
  • A résumé providing biographical background information about educational preparation, experience, and achievements
  • A placement file and/or five (5) current letters of professional references describing the applicant’s performance in previously held positions

Selection Procedure

A professional screening committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant. The board and the screening committee will use the described criteria during the screening, interviewing and final decision-making process. After receiving and studying the report of the screening committee, the board will select and interview the top candidates.

The board will select candidates for the final interviews, conduct the interviews and select the superintendent. Any applicant who contacts a board member with the intent of influencing the board’s decision will be disqualified.

Travel expenses for those candidates selected for the initial interview will be the responsibility of the candidate.

Salary and Contract Terms

The Lemoore Union High School District Board of Education will offer a salary of $128,000 to $144,000 (competitive and negotiable) to the successful candidate, based on that individual’s experience and qualifications.

It is the candidate’s responsibility to provide the district with employment eligibility and verification of citizenship in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act.
