Turlock’s unique location offers a gateway to recreation where people can delight in swimming, boating, skiing and fishing at nearby Turlock Lake, Modesto Reservoir and Lakes Don Pedro and McClure. Yosemite National Park and the High Sierra are about two hours away.

Our Schools and Students

The Turlock Unified School District began its initial school year on July 1, 2004. Prior to unification, the district was composed of the separately governed, but commonly administered, Turlock Joint Elementary School District and Turlock Joint Union High School District. Because both districts had a common administration, there has always been a long standing tradition of close cooperation and articulation among elementary, intermediate, and secondary instructional programs.

Turlock Unified School District is made up of one extended day kindergarten school, nine elementary schools, two junior high/middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, and two continuation/alternative education high schools. In addition, the district has one of the largest adult school programs in the central valley.
Turlock Unified School District serves a diverse and dynamic student population of 13,648 students that includes 47 percent Hispanic, 40.5 percent Caucasian, 2 percent African-American, 4.5 percent Asian, .5 percent Pacific Islander, .5 percent Filipino, 1 percent American Indian, and 4 percent other students. They are served by 943 certificated and 727 classified employees. The district has a general fund budget of $113,796,362. Active and supportive parent clubs provide additional support to the schools.

Pitman High School (2007), Dutcher Middle School (2005), and Dutcher Elementary School (2002) have been recognized as California Distinguished Schools. The district API for 2006 is 722. Special programs include state preschool programs at three elementary school campuses and Head Start programs at four elementary school campuses. Project Grow (0–5) is at three schools. Curriculum options include a No Excuses University Program, extended day kindergarten, dual-immersion program, a math/science magnet program, a performing arts magnet, AVID programs, GATE, and AP classes.

School facilities are a source of pride in Turlock Unified School District with the last four school bonds passed by the community to build a new high school and two new elementary schools, and for high school and elementary school modernization.
