The webinar includes an introduction of CSBA’s updated guide on school safety—Safe Schools: Strategies for Governing Boards to Ensure Student Success; highlighted strategies for promoting student achievement by creating a safe school environment; and a discussion on digital citizenship and the importance of community messaging.

The State Board of Education adopted the Common Core’s standards for English language arts and mathematics in 2010, and the state is now working to implement the standards and to change the state’s assessment and testing system accordingly.  In this webinar, presenters reviewed the most updated information on implementation at both the state and local level.

This webinar covered the student fees legal challenge and pending legislation—Assembly Bill 165. CSBA Senior Legislative Advocate Debra Brown and Howard Friedman of the Fagen Friedman & Fulfrost law firm outlined possible implications and helped participants understand how they can ensure compliance with constitutional protections and AB 165’s provisions, if it becomes law.
