New this year! Juanita Haugen Memorial Award for Civic Education
The Juanita Haugen Memorial Golden Bell Award for Civic Education was inaugurated in 2007. Juanita Haugen, a former president of the California School Boards Association and a dedicated trustee in the Pleasanton Unified School District for 18 years, was deeply committed to civic education. With her commitment and passion, Ms. Haugen provided leadership at the local, state and national levels to ensure that civic education was a policy priority. To honor her life’s work in this area and continue her commitment through the association that she served, the California School Boards Association has created the Juanita Haugen Memorial Golden Bell Award for Civic Education.
If your district/county office of education or a local school has made a significant contribution toward civic education in your community, please consider submitting a nomination for this prestigious Golden Bell Award.
Programs that will be considered include: comprehensive strategies to engage students in the democratic process; collaborations with civic organizations to advance civic education and/or programs; opportunities for hands-on civic engagement experiences; etc.
