Local Leadership Summits
We are pleased to announce that several local leadership summits have taken place and are being planned throughout various California communities.  As we learn of more local summits, we will continue to share information about them.  If you are aware of additional summits in the works, please let us know by contacting one of the staff listed at the end of this message.

  • Yolo County held a local leadership summit August 11 in Winters with 75 local leaders in attendance. They agreed to continue to meet to discuss issues of common concern.
  • Shasta County and the cities of Redding, Shasta Lake and Anderson are planning a series of community forums. The first one was scheduled for August 31.  An article about the forums is available here.
  • Other areas that are planning local leadership summits or forums include:

            • Monterey County
            • Napa County
            • San Mateo County
            • Ventura County
            • Placer, Nevada and El Dorado counties

Local Leadership Summit toolkit
A Local Leadership Summit toolkit will soon be available on the CCS Partnership Web site to provide recommendations in planning you own local summit.  Please visit the CCS Partnership Web site next week to access these materials.  The toolkit will include a sample agenda, a planning checklist, Brown Act considerations, speaker recommendations and additional resources necessary for setting up a local summit in your area.

Summary of breakout session discussions
A summary of the notes from the 17 breakout sessions at the Local Government Summit is now available.  This 30-page document is available for download here.  The CCS Board of Directors and CCS Joint Task Force on State Budget and Fiscal Reform will use this information to inform and guide their future work.

Web sites – updates
We are in the process of redesigning the REBUILDING CALIFORNIA section on the CCS Partnership Web site to make information easier to access. Please visit the site in the coming weeks to view these updates.  CSBA, The League of California Cities and the California State Association of Counties also continue to post new information and resources on their Web sites.
