December 3, San Diego, Convention Center

San Diego Convention Center  |  Wednesday, December 3
Election day is over and it’s official — you’re now on the board. Or you’ve been on the board for a year and realize you could use some guidance. What next? CSBA’s one-day orientation gives you a preview of your roles and responsibilities. This session will get you off to the right start on your school board and dramatically reduce the time necessary for you to get up to speed. We strongly encourage attendance by district superintendents, as well. It is critical for the board and superintendent to work closely to pursue the shared goals of the district and keep efforts focused on student learning.

The precursor to the two-day Institute for New and First-Term Board Members offered in 2008, this orientation provides a broad overview of the following:

  • Roles and responsibilities of the governance team
  • Legal issues and the Brown Act
  • School finance
  • Board and superintendent relations

Meet other newly elected board members and start building your network today. This session will prepare you for the more comprehensive learning opportunities offered during the Annual Education Conference that follows on  December 4-6.

Board presidents and superintendents: Register your new board members for this vital workshop.

Presenters include:
Molly McGee Hewitt, California School Business Officials; Ann Murray, Shareholder, Kronick Moskovitz Tiedemann & Girard; Ron Bennett, President and CEO, School Services of California, Inc.
