CSBA Web site helps board members
Newly elected and veteran board members alike can benefit from a wealth of information available on CSBA’s Web site. A redesigned site for even easier navigation will be launched in the new year, but in the meantime our “New School Board Members” Web page is a great place to start.
Final 2005-06 CAHSEE results, independent evaluation released
Updated results show that 91.4 percent of seniors in the Class of 2006 have passed the exam. Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell reported Oct. 26 that 819 additional students passed the California High School Exit Exam in July, pushing the 2006-06 school year total past 400,000.
EdSource launches Web site on California school funding
EdSource, the 30-year-old nonprofit organization whose Ed-Data Web page disaggregates financial, demographic and performance data for California’s public K-12 school system from a statewide perspective down to the individual school level, has introduced a new Web site on the topic of California school finance and governance.
National report analyzes challenges facing English Learners
A new national study concludes that the education of English Learners poses a growing challenge across the country. The study, prepared by the Carnegie Corporation of New York for the Alliance for Excellent Education, says ELs’ unique needs must be identified and addressed with targeted strategies.
San Diego COE spotlights successful EL programs
A two-year study of effective programs for English learners offers lessons from six Southern California schools. Conducted by the San Diego County Office of Education, the study has implications that are applicable statewide and beyond.
Profiles in partnership
The National Network of Partnership Schools’ annual collection, “Promising Partnership Practices 2006,” contains over 85 activities that have been implemented in elementary, middle and high schools at districts across the country to improve the climate of school and community partnerships and help families support students in math, reading, science, health, behavior and postsecondary planning. NNPS has also placed more than 600 practices for better partnerships on its redesigned Web site in the section, “Success Stories.”
