CSBA’s 2006 Annual Education Conference

Stimulating speakers, special presentations and much more—including a free mini-conference on electronic games and learning—are on tap for CSBA’s Annual Education Conference and Trade Show at the Moscone Center in San Francisco Nov. 30-Dec. 2. The entire governance team of local board members and superintendents will benefit from hundreds of information and networking sessions planned.
This year’s conference will also include CSBA’s first Executive Assistants Program. This one-day schedule of sessions on Thursday, Nov. 30, will hone executive assistants’ professional skills at a special rate of just $250.

Early bird registration for the main conference is now underway at the discounted price of $375 through July 31. Registration at the regular rate of $405 opens Aug. 1, with registration for CSBA regular housing opening Aug. 21.
Speakers—and a free mini-conference
San Diego-based artist and lecturer Erik Wahl will lead off the conference’s first general session Thursday, Nov. 30, with “The Art of Vision for Educators.” Wahl’s highly interactive and motivational presentation vividly shows that art is an integral part of every student’s learning experience.
Famed former astronaut Dr. Sally K. Ride will speak at the second general session Friday, Dec. 1. America’s first woman in space, Ride is now a professor of physics at the University of California, San Diego, where she also directs UC’s California Space Institute.
A special feature of CSBA’s Annual Education Conference this year will be a free mini-conference on Friday morning with internationally acclaimed education speaker, writer, consultant and designer Marc Prensky. Prensky is the author of Digital Games-Based Learning and founder and CEO of Games2train.com, an online platform for electronic games with educational angles.
CSBA Executive Director Scott P. Plotkin and Assistant Executive Director for Governmental Relations Rick Pratt will close the conference with their annual State of the State symposium on Saturday, Dec. 2. They will be joined once again in their incisive analysis of the state and national outlook for education funding and policy by Rick Simpson, Deputy Chief of Staff to Speaker of the Assembly Fabian Nùñez.
