Coming events offer value in hard times

CSBA is offering several timely conferences and workshops this fall to help school governance teams advance student interests.

Collective Bargaining Summits will be offered in eight locations this year, and they’re in a new half-day format to save members’ money on travel costs. The registration fee is reduced, costing just $135 per person or $125 each when sending two or more participants. The summits, sponsored by CSBA, the Association of California School Administrators and the School Employers Association of California, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Sept. 15: Eureka City Schools office, Eureka
  • Sept. 16: Shasta Union High School District office, Redding
  • Sept. 17: Solano County Office of Education, Fairfield
  • Sept. 22: Visalia Unified School District office, Visalia
  • Sept. 23: Fontana Unified School District office, Fontana
  • Oct. 6: Lawndale Unified School District office, Lawndale
  • Oct. 7: Carlsbad Unified School District office, Carlsbad
  • Oct. 8: Imperial County Office of Education, El Centro

The Back-to-School Webcast will discuss how your governance team can respond to changes in state and federal laws, policies and funding. The Webcast runs from 10 a.m. to noon on Sept. 24. The event is being offered at no charge to members for the third year in a row to ensure all interested districts and county offices have access to these important updates.

Looking further ahead, early registration deadlines are looming for two other major events:

The School Wellness Conference, Oct. 6-7 at the Anaheim Marriott: The $275 registration fee, which includes conference materials and lunch for both days, rises to $350 after Sept. 18; there’s also a complimentary pre-conference event Oct. 5 (see related story page 5).

The 2009 Annual Education Conference and Trade Show, Dec. 3-5 at the San Diego Convention Center, is CSBA’s signature event. The registration rate is $425 through Aug. 23, when it rises to $455.
