Nominations open for president-elect, vice president

Nominations for CSBA’s 2012 president-elect and vice president are being accepted through June 6.

Candidates must possess strong leadership and problem-solving skills. They must have the commitment to lead a statewide education association and understand the vision and mission of CSBA.

They also must:

  • serve on a school district or county board that is a member of CSBA
  • receive a minimum of three nominations

Nominations may be made by either the governing board of a CSBA-member school district or county office of education or by an individual member of a CSBA-member board.

This is a very important leadership opportunity, according to Bertha Lopez, chair of the 2011 CSBA Nominating Committee, who’s a member of the Sweetwater Union High School District governing board and a CSBA delegate from Region 17.

“If you know someone that you think would be a great CSBA officer—or if you’re interested in running yourself—please complete a nomination form,” said Lopez. “Given what’s going on in the state right now, CSBA needs committed and passionate leaders to represent school board member interests and advocate for the children of California.”

Officer nomination forms can be found on CSBA’s website. They can be submitted online or printed out and faxed or mailed to CSBA’s headquarters, but they must be received by 5 p.m. on June 6.

In a separate process, also detailed on CSBA’s website, those candidates that have received three nomination forms will have until July 11 to submit formal declarations of candidacy. Nominations will be made public Oct. 18, and the Delegate Assembly will elect the officers at its Dec. 1 meeting in San Diego. The successful candidates will take office immediately following CSBA’s Dec. 1-3 Annual Education Conference and Trade Show in San Diego and serve for the following year.
