CSBA trainings for new trustees coming to convenient locations

Stuart Foundation scholarship applications due Jan. 4

School board members elected to guide California school districts and county offices of education in the Nov. 8 election—as well as those serving their first terms as trustees—can apply now for scholarships to attend CSBA’s 2012 Institute for New and First-Term Board Members. The association’s highly regarded two-day training is offered January through March at convenient locations throughout the state.

Supported by a grant from the Stuart Foundation, the scholarships cover registration, materials and meals. Registrants are responsible for travel expenses and lodging. Scholarship applications must be received by 5 p.m. Jan. 4.

The Institute provides a unique opportunity for newly elected and first-term trustees to learn about their special roles and responsibilities, with presentations by veteran school board members, along with education fiscal and policy experts on effective governance, finance, human resources and student learning that participants will be able to apply on their boards. Superintendents are eligible for free registration if they attend with members of their school boards.

Locations/dates for the 2012 Institute are:

  • Sacramento: Jan. 20-21
  • Garden Grove: Jan. 27-28
  • Bakersfield: Feb. 3-4
  • Millbrae: Feb. 10-11
  • Los Angeles: Feb. 24-25
