CSBA policy, leadership training under new direction

Angelo Williams brings experience in philanthropy, higher education and legislation

Angelo Williams is CSBA’s new assistant executive director for policy analysis and leadership development. He succeeds Holly Jacobson, who has been named director of the Center for the Future of Teaching and Learning at WestEd.

Williams comes to CSBA from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, where as a program officer he managed a portfolio of education and economic development grants.  He served as an adjunct professor of social science, education policy and administration at Drexel University’s Center for Graduate Studies, Sacramento City College and Sacramento State University.

Williams started his career in government, first in the Legislature as a legislative analyst,  Senate associate consultant and field deputy for education and economic development legislation and finally as a gubernatorial appointee to the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office as state director and assistant vice chancellor.

He earned a doctorate in education at CSU Sacramento after previous studies at the University of California, Davis.

“My main focus is continuing programs and partnerships that are valuable to CSBA members, and 2012 will be a crucial year for education reform,” Williams said. “Our team is prepared to stand with our members by providing high-quality policy analysis and services to strengthen school district governance and leadership to best serve the children of California.”
