Registration opens for Celebrating Opportunities

An early registration rate of $225—$50 off the standard rate—is available through March 15 for the Celebrating Educational Opportunities for Students of All Cultures Conference, which is coming to Santa Fe, New Mexico, April 29-30.

The annual event showcases effective education programs for raising academic achievement among underrepresented student groups. A collaborative effort of the California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas school board associations, it gives participants an opportunity to learn from the challenges and opportunities facing schools in the Southwest and beyond.

Keynote speakers include Pedro Noguera, the New York University education and sociology professor who wove lessons from his previous service on the board of the Oakland Unified School District into his address at CSBA’s recent Annual Education Conference and Trade Show; Anthony J. Trujillo, a superintendent in Texas who elevated his school district’s academic scores from the state’s lowest to the highest; and representatives from the Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation, who will share research from the multidisciplinary research institution’s studies into how attachment, culture and trauma shape engagement with families and the provision of services. Many breakout sessions and cultural presentations are also planned.
