Chatman chairs NSBA’s black caucus

Ocean View Elementary School District board member and past CSBA President Paul H. Chatman has been elected to chair the National School Boards Association’s National Black Caucus of School Board Members. The position also makes him an NSBA ex-officio director.

Emma Turner, a La Mesa-Spring Valley School District board member and CSBA’s director-at-large, black, was also elected as a regional director on the Caucus’s governing board.

The National Black Caucus is a membership organization dedicated to identifying and addressing the educational needs of black students, narrowing the academic achievement gap and pursuing equity in education.

Chatman had been a regional director on NBC and previously served as its chair-elect.  He has long focused on education issues beyond Ocean View ESD, becoming a member of CSBA’s Delegate Assembly in 1996. He joined the Board of Directors in 2001 as director-at-large, black. As NBC’s chair, Chatman also regains a seat on CSBA’s Board of Directors.
