Back-to-School will have latest on state budget, AEC the latest on social media

Back-to-School is Sept. 22, Annual Conference Dec. 1-3

Up-to-the-minute information on Assembly Bill 114—the state budget trailer bill that restricts school districts’ fiscal planning and certificated staffing options—and other aspects of the state budget will be a prominent feature of CSBA’s complimentary Back-to-School Webcast Sept. 22.

CSBA Assistant Executive Director for Governmental Relations Rick Pratt and other speakers will also offer updates on AB 165, South Gate Democrat Ricardo Lara’s proposal to further restrict student fees, and other pertinent state and federal laws, regulations, policies and pending legislation. The two-hour presentation begins at 10 a.m. This is the fifth year CSBA is presenting Back-to-School in a convenient, Web-based format.

AEC: Social networks add value

This year’s Annual Education Conference and Trade Show promises to be the most interactive and responsive ever. The conference will be held at the San Diego Convention Center Dec. 1-3.

To start with, CSBA’s social media experts will be on hand in the Pavilion to answer questions about Facebook, Twitter and help individuals set up their own accounts and join the action. There will be opportunities throughout the three-day event to ask questions of speakers, recommend conference sessions, and share insights via CSBA’s social networking feeds—and technology expert Jim Spellos will be back by popular demand to answer questions about 21st century education tools.

“We’re trying to create communications that use social media based on what people are learning at the conference,” said Annual Education Conference Coordinator Deanna Fernandes. At the direction of the Conference Planning Committee, each presentation will feature explicit takeaways that can be put to immediate use.

Summer conference booklets have been mailed to all CSBA members, providing schedules, descriptions of each day’s sessions and other information to help conference-goers get a head start on their conference planning.
