Common Core will be topic of webinar

A comprehensive update on California's recently adopted Common Core State Standards will be the subject of the next installment of Education Insights @ CSBA, a complimentary new, webinar series on current education topics.

Deborah Sigman, the California Department of Education’s deputy superintendent for curriculum, learning and accountability, will join CSBA Principal Legislative Advocate Erika Hoffman for the 90-minute webinar, which begins at 1 p.m. September 16.

The State Board of Education adopted the Common Core’s standards for English language arts and mathematics last year, and the state is now working to implement the standards and to change the state’s assessment and testing system accordingly. The webinar will review the most updated information on implementation at both the state and local level.

Education Insights @ CSBA is among the association’s newest benefits of membership, offering insights and commentary from CSBA’s own experts and independent sources from elsewhere in the public education community.

In the first installment, presented in July, CSBA Senior Legislative Advocate Debra Brown and attorney Howard Friedman of the Fagen Friedman & Fulfrost law firm outlined possible implications of recent litigation and legislation on student fees. Their presentation is archived for viewing anytime on the series Web page.
