Latest Policy News offers insights on current education issues

Topics ranging from local education agencies’ use of social media to pertussis immunizations are addressed in the latest edition of CSBA's Policy News, now available for complimentary download in a convenient, printer-friendly format.

Published three times each year, Policy News delivers up-to-date governance and policy information; topics covered in the July 2011 issue include fund balance policies, a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision affecting law enforcement interviews of students at school, and other issues.

Two new sample policies discussed in Policy News are available to subscribers to CSBA’s GAMUT Online and Manual Maintenance.

  • BP/AR 1114 - District-Sponsored Social Media was issued in response to growing numbers of school districts and county offices of education that are using social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to support their community outreach and public relations efforts. The sample policy identifies issues that should be addressed in policy before removing posts in order to protect against possible constitutional challenges.
  • BP 4033 - Lactation Accommodation reflects state and federal requirements that employees be provided with reasonable break time and an appropriate location to express milk for their infant children.
