Stand Up For Education

Boards urged to pass resolutions supporting both Props. 30 and 38

In July, CSBA launched Stand Up For Education, a long-term endeavor that will embrace public information and advocacy to keep public education on the political and public agendas in California. The first goal of the effort is to rally CSBA members to work with their boards to pass a resolution in support of both Propositions 30 and 38. Learn more about the campaign in the Vantage Point article, written by CSBA President Jill Wynns. All of the tools needed to implement Stand Up For Education in your local community are available under the Stand Up For Education icon at www.csba.org.

“The real power behind Stand Up For Education is in our unified efforts to share these resolutions of support and information about the school funding crisis with parents, local opinion leaders and the community at large,” explained Vernon M. Billy, CSBA executive director.

The second phase of Stand Up For Education, coming soon, is a public information effort. “Time is of the essence. We need your help to get the word out and to illustrate with examples from local schools about the importance of investing in public education now,” said Billy.

Nationwide, many school board associations are using a similar campaign theme to rally members to advocate locally for public education. “Stand Up For Education is really about every board leader and member of the school community stepping up for our students and schools,” Billy said. “This means initiating opportunities to share our good news about student success and to convey the facts about our challenges.

“Every board member is a key communicator for public education. Now is the time to Stand Up For Education and be counted as a champion for California public schools,” Billy added. Visit the Stand Up For Education icon at www.csba.org for tools, tips and information.
