Program Information
Election day is over and it’s official—you’re now on the board. What next? Get off to the right start on your school board and dramatically reduce the time necessary for you to get up to speed. CSBA’s one-day orientation for new trustees will get you through your first 100 days of service with ease. Attend and learn about your critical role and key responsibilities. It is crucial for the board and superintendent to work closely to pursue the shared goals of the district and keep efforts focused on student learning. We strongly encourage attendance by district superintendents, as well.
The precursor to the two-day Institute for New and First-Term Board Members offered in 2012, this orientation will examine
the following:
• To Govern-What does it mean?
• Brown Act, Key Concepts
• Importance of Policy
• The School District Budget
• The Daily Work
• Key Issues Going Forward - Education Reform and State Fiscal Reform
Meet other newly elected board members and start building your network today. This session will prepare you for the more comprehensive learning opportunities offered during the Annual Education Conference. Board presidents and superintendents: Register your new board members for this vital workshop.
