Garth Lewis

Superintendent, Yolo COE

Garth Lewis serves as the Yolo County Superintendent of Schools.  He was elected to this position in 2018.  Over the course of his 25-year career in K-12 education, Mr. Lewis has served as a paraeducator, classroom teacher, site and district administrator, and an assistant superintendent at the Yolo County Office of Education. As County Superintendent, Mr. Lewis supports and provides leadership to approximately 300 employees, which he is certain are the agency’s most valuable resource.  His collaborative work affects the 30,000 students served through the five school districts in Yolo County. He believes access to a high-quality education is a significant factor in improving life outcomes for all children served in the P12 public school system, particularly those experiencing poverty.
 
Mr. Lewis is also a Commissioner for First 5 Yolo and a member of the Board of Directors for the California Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the California Association of African American Superintendents and Administrators.
 
Mr. Lewis earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from California State University, Sacramento and is a current doctoral student at the University of California, Davis.  He holds a Multiple-subjects Teaching Credential and a K-12 Administrative Services Credential.
 
He and his wife, Maria, a public school teacher in Yolo County, have two children who have attended public schools in Yolo County.
