In 2013, more than 269,000 K-12 students experienced homelessness. Nationally, 1 in 45 children experience homelessness in America each year. That's over 1.6 million children. These vulnerable youth are exposed to abuse, neglect and instability and have a greater risk for physical and mental health problems, academic failure and incarceration. Meeting the needs of these youth requires the collective effort of communities and schools to provide access to safe, stable learning environments with necessary learning supports to ensure academic success.
