Modesto City Schools Board Member Cindy Marks Elected President-Elect of the California School Boards Association

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WEST SACRAMENTO, CA— Modesto City Schools Board Member Cindy Marks became president-elect of the California School Boards Association at the conclusion of the organization’s Annual Education Conference and Trade Show December 3.

“I want to thank all the members of CSBA for their trust and support,” said Marks.  “We all share the desire to see California public school students become thoughtful, contributing members of our state and our communities. I will use my office to help school board members obtain the resources they need to continue making gains in education at local, state and national levels.”

Before being elected CSBA vice president last year, Marks served as the Region 8 (Calaveras, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties) director on the CSBA Board of Directors for six years. She served on the CSBA Delegate Assembly prior to that.

“Cindy is passionate about encouraging all students to succeed,” said CSBA President Jill Wynns.  “She’s a lifelong advocate of public education who’s mentored at-risk youth and gang members and counseled junior and senior high school students. I look forward to continuing our work together at CSBA.”

In 2002, the California State Legislature appointed Marks to the Joint Committee to Develop a Master Plan for Education that produced a report outlining how to create a single, seamless system of education from preschool through postsecondary education for California.

She was first elected to the Modesto City Schools Board of Education in 1997.

Marks lives in Modesto with her husband Bob. Two of her sons graduated from Modesto City Schools.

She will be joined on the CSBA Executive Committee in 2012 by CSBA President Jill Wynns, Vice President Josephine “Jo” Lucey and Immediate Past President Martha Fluor. The officers are elected by the delegates at the Delegate Assembly meeting just prior to the CSBA Annual Education Conference.
