CSBA to Host Gubernatorial Candidate Panel at Annual Education Conference and Trade Show
Leading Gubernatorial and State Superintendent of Public Instruction candidates will discuss pressing education issues at conference featuring more than 3,000 school board members
SACRAMENTO, Calif., (Nov. 21, 2017) – The top contenders in the California Governor’s race will appear on a panel at CSBA’s 2017 Annual Education Conference and Trade Show (AEC) in San Diego.
On Saturday, Dec. 2, the candidates will address more than 3,000 school board trustees during a two-hour session focused on topics such as student performance, the conditions of children, equity, school funding, charter schools, opportunity and achievement gaps, and the state’s funding, assessment and accountability systems.
California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom; California State Treasurer John Chiang; California Assemblymember Travis Allen; former California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Delaine Eastin; former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; and businessman John Cox will join panel moderator and CSBA’s CEO & Executive Director Vernon M. Billy in the conference finale. The conference will also feature presentations from State Superintendent of Public Instruction candidates Tony Thurmond and Marshall Tuck on Nov. 30, and Dec. 1, respectively.
Hosted at the San Diego Convention Center from Nov. 30, to Dec. 2, CSBA’s annual conference is the premier continuing education event for California school boards and the state’s largest education leadership conference.
The CSBA conference unites school district governing teams with superintendents, county office of education trustees, education advocates and some of the world’s top thinkers in exploring methods to support and strengthen public schools. The event includes more than 120 workshops on subjects such as equity, adequacy and opportunity; innovation and student learning; funding, finance and facilities; school climate and community engagement; and leadership through good governance.
The 2017 conference also includes keynote speeches by New York Times bestselling author, veteran and youth advocate Wes Moore; and author, education researcher and public schools advocate Diane Ravitch.
