Description
Small School District Financial Workshop – El Dorado County
Overview
Board members of small school districts have a unique perspective when setting budget priorities and making financial decisions. This session will explore navigating the board’s role in understanding the opportunities and requirements of the various funding opportunities through the lens of a small school district governance team.
The Program
The governance team members will have an opportunity to understand not just the districts’ unrestricted budget but also learn more about the districts’ restricted funding. The goal of this session is for participants to understand the board’s role in aligning board policies and administrative regulations in addition to the approval of required plans and applications. The session will explore the considerations necessary to strategically access and maximize the limited resources to best meet the needs of the students within a small school district. During the session, we will review the various accountability requirements of restricted programs, including federal programs and competitive grant opportunities. Participants will have opportunities to discuss strategies used by small school districts, such as multi-funding staff and pooling resources with other school districts.
