A new program to help you navigate the evolving demands of an Executive Assistant role

As an executive assistant, your team depends on you to keep things running smoothly. Sometimes, it can feel overwhelming. It doesn’t have to be. CSBA is excited to offer a program designed especially for you – CSBA's Executive Assistant Certification Program!

Program description:

This program is designed to be completed in cohorts. Each cohort will attend the set program plan at the dates and times listed during registration. The program itself will consist of an orientation and four courses:

Understanding Culture Course 1 (2 days)
Prerequisite: Completion of asynchronous Orientation Webinar. Details will be sent via email once registration is complete.

This course will introduce the main functions of the Executive Assistant’s responsibilities and how these functions support the governance team. The course is intended to support aspiring, new to the position, as well as veteran Executive Assistants.  Participants will explore the role of the Executive Assistant and be able to articulate why and how this role is important to both district and County Office governance. In addition, participants will identify ways the role contributes to a culture that supports student learning. The course will support personal and professional growth.

Governance Course 2 (2 days)
Prerequisites: Completion of signed Executive Assistant Professional Plan, Identification of an Accountability Partner from the cohort, and Course 1 described above.

This course will introduce the practices, tools, and resources which support good governance practices. The participants will understand the available resources from CSBA, and other district and COE partners. The requirements of governance, including, but not limited to, the Brown Act and board policies and bylaws will be highlighted. This course will support personal and professional growth, and is intended to support aspiring, new to the position, as well as veteran Executive Assistants.

Job Mechanics Course 3 (2 days)
Prerequisites: Completion of assignments, and Course 1 and 2 as described above.

This course will identify the job responsibilities that support good governance. Participants will practice and enhance the skill sets held by effective Executive Assistants. GAMUT, public records, and scheduling are some of the specific areas that will be addressed. Small group discussions and projects will be utilized in this course. This course is intended to support aspiring, new to the position, as well as veteran Executive Assistants.

Integration and Graduation Course 4 (1 day)
Prerequisites: Completion of assignments, and Course 1, 2 , and 3 as described above.

This course will connect the learning theories and concepts from courses 1 to 3 to the application of an Executive Assistant job duties. An opportunity to reflect on learning and the application to the participant’s personal and professional growth will be facilitated. Completion of assignments and coursework will be recognized and celebrated. This course is intended to support aspiring, new to the position, as well as veteran Executive Assistants.

Upon completion of the program, you will walk away understanding:
  • why the EA role is important to district and COE governance
  • how the Executive Assistant role contributes to the conditions of student learning
  • main functions of the EA responsibilities and how these functions support the governance team
  • requirements of governance, including, but not limited to, the Brown Act and board policies and bylaws
  • practices, tools and resources which support good governance practices
  • job responsibilities that support good governance
  • how practice and enhance skill sets lead to an effective Executive Assistant 
Once you’ve completed the program, you will earn an official CSBA Executive Assistant Program certificate!
